The Discovery Kids as a Creative Learning Environment
Creative Beginnings is a concept common in the West. It’s a childcare philosophy committed to providing care and education to children generally between 6 weeks and 5 years old. Creative beginning centers, much like regular schools, can be found in just about any neighborhood in the West, and parents are encouraged to register their children for a learning experience that would set their lives on course and equip them with the skill and character they would need to achieve success in life. Although the concept is uncommon in Nigeria, the Discovery Kids, Art Tech District, exists as a rarity, operating much like creative beginning centers and institutions found in other parts of the developed world.
Our activities — sip ’n’ paint, treasure hunt, laser tag, and various other indoor and outdoor games — are carefully planned, organized, and facilitated by friendly and knowledgeable guides. And our program places a strong emphasis on the development of communication, collaboration, creative thinking, and social skills in children; it incorporates the key knowledge and skill that contribute to a child’s readiness for academic and life success.
The children learn through fun activities and through the manipulation of objects and hands-on experience. We organize our schedules in a way that children are made to figure things out and learn new skills and concepts. They are allowed to explore new adventures and therefore develop the confidence to take risks and try more daring activities. Through a variety of exercises that include lots of fun and learning opportunities, children make self-directed and guided choices, collaborate with each other to complete tasks, and experience the joy of childhood.
